I apologize for missing the dev log last week. Things were incredibly busy and I just didn't have the time.
Cybernetics
Cybernetics are similar to magic in that they allow people to perform actions that break the laws of nature. The difference is that unlike magic, cybernetics are not in-born traits. A person must undergo surgery in order to use them.
For the ESS, cybernetics are "learned" by placing chips inside one's body. Once that's done they are able to use that ability at will, provided they have enough endurance to do so.
In terms of game play mechanics, some classes will focus solely on the use of cybernetics (Doctor, Cybernetic-Technician) whereas others will not use any at all (Soldier, Martial Artist). Some classes use cybernetics, but on a lesser scale (Gunslinger).
Abilities
Some classes such as Martial Artists and Soldiers rely on their own inner abilities to survive battle rather than cybernetic powers. Because of this, their personal shield is stronger than other classes since all of the energy is focused on their defense rather than spread out between different abilities. This means that they are able to take more hits than cybernetic-based classes.
Abilities range from taunting enemies, special attacks, and more. For example, the Soldier class receives an ability called "Provoke" which makes enemies target them instead of their allies. Gunslingers can use an ability called "Exchange" to convert hit points to endurance, allowing them to continue using cybernetic powers.
Combat Roles
Gameplay will be a slight departure from traditional NWN and more similar to recent games. Each class will serve its own role in a party.
The roles are pretty self-explanatory but just in case you need more information...
Defender means that the class focuses on absorbing an enemy's attack. This type of class generally has a powerful Personal Shield which allows them to take many blows. They also have abilities to make sure that the target attacks the defender instead of their allies. For example, the Soldier has the "Provoke" ability that does just that.
Healers focus on recovering a party member's Personal Shield. In addition to that, they also have cybernetics which remove negative status effects. They are typically a weak class, so if you jump into melee be careful!
Damage Dealing classes are split into the type of damage they cause to enemies. Combat based damage dealing classes can either deal ranged damage or melee damage to targets. Magic based damage dealing classes work slightly differently. As the name implies, they use damage dealing cybernetics to destroy their enemies.
That's pretty much it for this week. Next week, I'll try to be on time.
Have a question or suggestion? Post it! We want feedback from you all so don't be afraid to post!
