I know it's not Tuesday but I probably won't have the time tomorrow to keep with tradition! So I present to you... Special Edition Devlog!
Advancement
Two separate systems are in place to allow you to customize your characters in any way you like. One is designed specifically for your character and the other is to boost your activities in space.
For this devlog, I'll be talking about the one for space. Sorry, no screenshots yet.
Skills System
As the name implies, "space levels" are attained while performing activities in space. This ranges from completing missions, manufacturing, destroying enemy ships, and so on. As you gain experience your level increases. It's a pretty standard set up, huh?
Here's where things are a little different. Each time you level up in space your character receives skill points (SP). This SP is used as a form of currency for increasing skill ranks.
So you might be wondering: What does increasing skill ranks do for you?
Well, it does quite a few things. First of all, before you can attach certain parts or use specific ships you must meet the skill requirements. There are also skills to increase attributes of your ships like increased capacitor, more HP and so on.
The best part about all of this is that you define your character. Boost the skills you want to and mold your character around what you want him or her to perform.
Something else that's pretty nifty is that there's no hard level cap. That means theoretically your level could increase to a million or higher. But I wouldn't count on getting that high
Skills are still in heavy design right now so I can't give a concrete list of what skills you'll find in the finished game. However, there will be plenty of them. I can assure you of that.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Let me know.
