[Introduction]
Welcome to Solar Odyssey: Online!
For more in-depth details on gameplay, please read the FAQ section under the Rest Menu, which can be accessed by either ordering your character to rest or by activating the blue Essence gem in your inventory.
[Getting Started - Missions]
When you begin play for the first time, you will be standing in the Hunter's Lodge, the center for jobs contracted by various organizations. Initially only some jobs will be available to you. For now, locate Annita Hull and Jord Hald. Accept the missions "Windy Threat" and "Arrowwood Collection". Once you have done this, leave through the exit in the southwest corner of the area.
[Getting Started - Equipment]
If you check your inventory, you will notice you begin with only a dagger and some clothes. Let's find something better. Once outside the Hunter's Lodge, head over to the building in the northwest corner of the area. This is the general store where you can pick up basic gear. Take a moment to look over what is available, then purchase and equip the basic longsword. Later you'll be able to use more advanced equipment; this, however, requires the expertise of a crafter to create the item and greater skill in that item's type (e.g. Light Armor or Longblades) to equip it.
[Getting Started - Ether Elevators]
When you're finished, go back outside and walk over to the ether elevator. It's just south of the general store. The ether elevator provides access to different levels of the vertically expansive Zheckshan City. Access the terminal next to the elevator and select the manufacturing district from the list of choices.
[Getting Started - A Harvester]
The Manufacturing District is the center for all things crafting-related, whereas the Business District, which you have just left, is the center for shops and commerce. Locate the harvesting supplies store on the map and go there. Now open the store and under the Miscellaneous tab you will find basic harvesters. You'll need these to collect materials like arrowwood and copper. For now, just buy the basic organic harvester. Now leave the store and go back to the ether elevator. Select Gildonnu Jungle: Central from the terminal.
[Taking Care of Business - Missions]
Now that you are better equipped, let's take care of those two missions you picked up. Look for windrays wandering around the area. You will need to slay these for the "Windy Threat" mission. While you're at it, keep an eye out for arrowwood trees. These provide you with lumber, which you'll need for the "Arrowwood Collection" mission. To harvest an arrowwood tree, activate the organic harvester you purchased, then select the tree. Feel free to explore the jungle.
[Taking Care of Business - Rewards]
Once you have slain 5 windrays and harvested 7 arrowwood lumber, return to Annita Hull and Jord Hald in the Hunter's Lodge. If you become lost, make your way back to Gildonnu Jungle: Central, then take the Ether Elevator back to the Business District. The jungle makes a big loop around Central, with connections to Gildonnu Jungle: West and Southwest.
[Getting Started - Classes: Part 1]
While you've been out and about, you may have noticed that you gain class experience by exploring areas, slaying creatures, and completing missions. This experience contributes to your special SOO class levels. By now, you've probably gained a level in whichever class you've been playing as. The default for new characters is GRD, or Guardian.
[Getting Started - Classes: Part 2]
To see your available classes, access the Class Menu from the Rest Menu. Here you will be able to find information on which classes you have unlocked as well as change your current class. Each class determines which abilities are available for you to use. Feel free to change your class to whatever appeals to you, but keep in mind you can only change your class while you're in the city.
[Getting Started - Abilities: Part 1]
Now you're probably wondering where you can find your abilities. To use new abilities, you can attach them to a Quickslot by right-clicking an open Quickslot and then selecting Assign Special Abilities > Class (e.g. Fighter) > the Ability (e.g. Stone or Recover). Some abilities require you to select a target, while others automatically target yourself, while others still queue up for activation on your next weapon attack. For more information on each ability, right-click it and examine it.
[Getting Started - Abilities: Part 2]
Every class has a very special ability, which is available from the beginning. These one-hour ultimates are highly powerful, and can turn a dire situation to your favor. Use these sparingly though, because the one-hour timer for the ultimate abilities is across all classes.
[Getting Started - Crafting]
Crafting is often the most expensive aspect of the game, but it is also often the most rewarding. To start with, you'll need a blueprint. Spend some time collecting credits, and hold on to any leather you find - you'll need it later. Once you've worked up about 120 credits or so, go to the Manufacturing District of the city and find the leatherworking blueprint store. Once there, buy a Leatherworking Blueprint: Poor Quality Belt. You can examine it to see what materials you'll need to make the item.
[Taking Care of Business - Crafting: Part 1]
Now head back outside and find the leatherworking workshop. If you've collected enough leather already, that's great. The cloth you'll need though is only for sale at the automated stores in the workshops. Go ahead and buy what you need, and when you're ready access a nearby leatherworking terminal, then drag your new blueprint into the terminal's inventory. Your blueprint will not be removed from your inventory, but a manufacturing menu will appear.
[Taking Care of Business - Crafting: Part 2]
You'll notice that every blueprint has a rated difficulty, depending on your skill with that type of crafting. This difficulty determines your chance of succeeding in crafting. Should you fail an attempt, there is a possibility of losing some of your materials; however, your blueprint cannot be destroyed in this way. Upon success, you will receive the crafted item in your inventory, the materials will be consumed, and you will gain experience in that crafting skill as long as the difficulty was Easy or greater.
[Taking Care of Business - The Road Ahead]
Now that you have become established in the basics, you may continue exploring the world. You might consider completing the rest of the missions in the Hunter's Lodge for extra cash, investigating the information stored at the library in the Entertainment District, pursuing crafting to make more advanced items for yourself and others, or even teaming up with other players and delving into a dungeon. The choice is yours.
