While what I write here is by no means what I'd call final draft material, this thread will serve as a place to dump my ideas... hence the name. Don't get your hopes about this content, but it should give you an idea of what's going on in me noggin.

So while the post about the CPT confused me, I'm working on a bit of back story info to keep things straight. Normally, everyone assumes that Earth is the birthplace of the human race? Well, that's what confused me about how explorers found human or almost-human inhabitants even when interstellar exploration was still in its early days. If this was as far as we had ever been before, how the hell did these people get here? Why are they here? Were we really created by God? Is he playing sick games with our heads? I'm sure this is a great way to create a (insert own adjectives if desired) a religious nut job faction for the game. Also, what if in our universe, Earth is NOT the birthplace of humanity? Right there you have enough opportunities for missions and storyline to fill a black hole! Given that I'm still not particularly past my writer's block, I can't say rightly what the storyline would be so far, but I'm sure we can come up with something! For now though I'm just thinking Earth was one of many colonies in an intergalactic civilization. Something happened (not sure what... war maybe? that happens a lot) caused it to fall apart and many planets were left to themselves. Perhaps an even greater civilization than that of humanity felt they needed to arbitrate our technology... it's likely, considering how often humanity has abused its own power. That would explain the elimination of high technology in at least earth. Now as far as denying that the source of humanity was in fact Earth and evolution... well, I'm not sure aside from said alien race leaving key evidence to make us believe that we had actually evolved from apes or w/e. For now, that's the gists of it. Feedback is appreciated, especially if I can get something more detailed and stable to be committed to actual lore out of it. Thanks, guys!

Religious nut jobs... hmmmmmmmmm... if you're experienced in coming to illogical conclusions, please help with this. Not trying to bash current religions or anything, but I have a hard time casting aside logic and acting solely on faith. Basically, if you can write like a faithful follower, I'd appreciate some scripture or w/e for what you think this religious sect would be thinking. And what would their goals be?

I'm sure there would be many researchers who would come to suspect that Earth is not our origin. Of these researches would be a select few who would come to the conclusion that we were not, in fact, alone in the universe and that something else had intentionally disassembled our ancestral civilization. At least one group would be dedicated to discovering who or what this ancient force was and what exactly humanity had done to cause them to tear down civilization but not completely eliminate our species. Some would believe perhaps we were given a second chance. Some would wonder why nothing was left to show what our mistakes were. I am also thinking another group would be dedicated to working outside Federation law, to stop any and all technological advances that may bring about the events that led to the collapse of ancestral humanity. This one would be zealously committed to the idea that it was our technology and abuse of power that lead to the alien intervention.
